This Little Light of Mine….

July 15, 2019

You know it….keep going…. I’m gonna let it shine!!!!

Several weeks ago the lighting of our foyer, portico, and garage sconces all went out at the same time.  It instantly became a safety concern of mine. Although the lighting issue was important to be fixed, I was even more concerned for our children. You see, our children were back in town for a wedding and coming home later during the evenings than my husband and I usually do.

Long story short, it was actually the fixtures that needed to be replaced but my husband and I got a crash course on not only the different types of fixtures and the types of bulbs (filament, incandescent, LED) but also the color and brightness of the light.  We asked what was more important? Style? Watts? Lumens? Color? Some of these things we may have learned previously but we were reminded there was no one clear answer. It all boils down to just personal style. Each has pros and cons and each serve a specific purpose ranging from ambience to safety.  My husband and I suddenly became aware of lighting fixtures and the intensity of lighting everywhere.

Lighting throughout the house seemed to be revamped within the past few weeks with new bulbs and even dimmers to create the perfect mood in several areas of our house. Although this was an easy fix, wow, everything seems so much more homey, bright, safe, and updated! Now, even if the outdoor fixtures are lit, the interior of the house is also illuminated.

I think this was just a reminder to me as I have recently re-established this blog that Christ uses me as a light as well. Although sometimes the fixture itself needs to be replaced, other times it’s as simple as installing a brighter bulb for all to see. The new and improved bulb may be too bright for some but a dimmer when used appropriately will make the lighting perfect!  The purpose of light is meant to help others see the way more clearly, have paths illuminated, and get out of the darkness.

I felt the illumination of light was important for my house but it is even more important for my world. Most likely my light is very different than your light but we are all called to be the light of the world. Even if your light is small it has a special purpose and God will use it. Shine bright, watch and see!

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.”  Matthew 5:14-15  NIV
