The Puzzle Process

This week my daughter and I began working on a puzzle. It was actually quite relaxing. We had a method to completing the puzzle; we first completed the edges and then began filling in the inside of the puzzle. Nobody could have told us differently. Together we started looking at the slightest details and variations in the puzzle pieces to see where they might fit. When we found the perfect piece, it was the correct color and shape and fit with the rest of the pieces so precisely. Sometimes we knew approximately where a piece might go but we had to wait until other pieces were in place first before it would be a perfect fit. With each correctly interlocked puzzle piece we were excited that it was coming together. Even though we knew what the finished puzzle would ultimately look like, as we started filling in the pieces one by one it actually started becoming more and more beautiful. The details of the puzzle seemed vibrant and full of life; details appeared that we did not even realize were originally there. My daughter and I continued to work late into the evening even though we were often reminded by my husband that the puzzle was not supposed to be completed in 1 day. We eventually went to bed and left the puzzle out to continue working on it the following day.

I couldn’t stop thinking about this process. Our lives are just like that puzzle. God is working in us to fit each piece perfectly in place. He has a specific way of working to produce a complete perfect image with all the correct pieces in all the right places. No one can complete the work in us except for him because he knows what the final outcome will eventually look like but the process will not be completed overnight. Sometimes we might even think a specific piece is essential yet other pieces may have to be in place first. We are a work in progress! The Bible tells us that His good works in us will be in progress until the day that Jesus Christ returns.

As we ring in the New Year we establish New Year’s resolutions that will improve our well-being and quality of life. If you have not thought of a new year’s resolution yet let me help you. As you enter 2018, resolve to look at your life in a new way. Daily realize you are not the same as the day before. Seek Christ with all your heart and watch the puzzle of your life begin to unfold. Your life will become vibrant. You may begin to realize how each puzzle piece of your life holds an intricate part of your overall story. You will see how the new piece fits in with other pieces in your life. Use these new pieces in your life for His glory. Don’t try to rush the process or force the pieces. He is the master creator and believes you are beautiful just the way you are yet every day he perfects us a little more.

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ Phil 1:6 NKJV
