In light of Mother’s Day I would like to say my greatest blessings in life are the three angels who call me Mom. As their mom I feel I am blessed because of the unique relationship I have with each of them. There is nothing I would not do for them. I love to hear their voices, love to see them smile, love to spend time with them, … bottom line I love to be part of their lives. Each of them has a unique way to bless me through the days and they do not even realize how happy it makes me to hear their voice.

I started really thinking of these relationships and the love I have for each of them. It is an unconditional love and does not require that I hear from them, just hearing from them warms my heart in a way that only a mother understands.

During past several weeks it seems I have had long-standing prayer requests. Each of my children has been working on specific individual task and I have laid the prayer requests at Christ’s feet. I have prayed on behalf of others for a smooth adoption process, health issues, interviews, relationships, travel mercies, and evidence of God’s hand at work in situations. God is good and will always remain faithful but as I begin a new week, I am realizing some of my long-standing prayer requests will be different this week.

Thinking about this new season of prayer I determined tomorrow would start by actually writing down my revised prayer requests. Wait… I could write them down now but this seems like a task for morning-prayer; I know that sounds silly. I pray, just like you, throughout the entire day but there is something sweet about morning-prayer time. (I read a while ago before eating anything in the morning we should drink a cup of water to actually get our body working properly. I guess that would be similar to this. Morning prayer time is part of that Living Water that sustains our being.)

Although the Lord hears my voice throughout the day, it is in the morning that I can be more focused. In the mornings the air is fresh, the birds are chirping, the sun is rising and there are less distractions in my day. It is in the mornings that I am not pulled in multiple directions and it is easier to lay my requests before the Lord.

In the King James version in the Bible it actually says, “in the morning I will direct my prayer unto thee.” Think about those words. When was the last time you saw something directed? I saw men directing traffic at church. It was very deliberate. They were pointing, motioning directions, and moving things along. That is what I am told to do-“direct my prayer unto thee.” It is a very purposeful act. In the NIV it says, “lay my requests before you.” This too is purposeful and takes effort. Before you lay something down you must first pick the whole thing up, know you are going to lay the entire thing down, and then walk away. Even when you lay it down you don’t just dump it so it takes a conscience effort to get it to the right place. (Somewhat like laying sod.)

Then we must wait expectantly on the Lord. Just like laying that sod; we lay it and then wait expectantly for it to take and grow. It is not overnight and neither will the answers to our prayer requests but our Heavenly Father hears our voices. He knows the voices of His children, He loves to see them smile, He loves to spend time with them, … bottom line He loves to be part of their lives. If there is nothing I would not do for my own children, think about how much more love our Heavenly Father has for us and the lengths He would go for His children. We just have to remember He knows what is best and we have to wait expectantly on Him.
